Remote access solution

Postby pluggs » Oct 28 04 5:58 am

I have been asked to find a solution for a client that wants his Superintendent to have access to his files on the server and his e-mail though the exchange server from a remote location. Client currently has 1 server (Windows 2003 server sbe) that is functioning as the domain controller. A Linksys vpn router with a 128k internet connection. There are 15 local clients and at this point only 1 remote client. However they will soon be getting a faster internet connection possibly a full T1. When that happens I would like to vpn 2 additional clients. The client is currently using quickbooks through pcanywhere. Is wingate a viable solution for both issues (email/file access and quickbooks). The client will be using win xp pro and win 2000 pro. Does anyone know if quickbooks can be used in the way?

From the sound of it yes, WinGate VPN will do what you want it to do. I don't know Quickbooks, unfortunately, but if it is capable of running across a network it should be able to run across a VPN.

The best recommendation I can make is to actually install WinGate VPN. You will need one copy on the server with Internet Access (Probably the domain controller, from the sound of it) and another installation on the laptop (Remote Client).

WinGate VPN is available on a 30 day trial license and we provide full support during that time. It gives you a good chance to see if it suits your needs and to iron out any complexities with the setup without having to commit to a purchase straight off the bat.

If you are running win 2003 server you can use terminal server as well for the quickbooks, I have that going on now with a client and they could not be happier.
