What type of assistance are you after? (More specific)

WinGate will typically work right out of the box. If you simply click [Next] through all the installer screens, you will be 75% there. (Except for the Activation screen - that one needs special attention) For installation, in the helpfile, "A Clean Install" provides a good starting point. Once that's done, you should have WinGate running on your chosen server.

Then, you should verify that you can still access the internet. This might mean you need to configure any dialer profiles you have (In GateKeeper), you might need to ensure that your adapters are properly setup (External vs Internal, also in GateKeeper on the "Networking" page)

Once your WinGate Server is connected to the internet and can browse / surf / etc. you should setup the clients. "WinGate Connection Methods" in the help file gives you an overview of that. Also read the sections on "WinGate Operation" as that gives you an introduction to the basic concepts as well as details on setting up the WinGate Client.

After that, you might need to fine tune individual applications / setups to match your requirements - at that stage it is generally easiest to post to the forums, where somebody will be able to offer pointers and tips on how to get things running.

thanks for the reply.

ok i didnt explain what i wanted very well.

i was after an indepth configuration guide, but if thats not available then i'll post my problems.

I will be runnning the wingate server on a corporate network with roughly 12 concurrent users, of that their will be 50-75 people who are allowed internet access.

at the moment i can allow anyone who i point at the IP of the wingate machine access to the internet, however they are not being made to logon, previously in our really old wingate machine everyone had to log on via the java client. with the new system i have been unable to force authentication.

when i go to Services ---> WWW Proxy Server ----> and tick java client authentication, the users attempting to login get this response.

i have tried multiple users, checked that all "accounts are enabled".

Dont know what else to try.

Idea's? suggestions?

The Java Client uses the same login that GateKeeper does. So, you have to ensure that the Remote Control Service has a binding policy that will allow it to bind to your internal adapter. By default, it only has a policy for localhost (127.0.0.1)
