How to denie internet connection?

Postby upieiller » Nov 09 04 12:38 am

Hi
I am triyng to use WinGate because I have a room with 20 PC connected to Internet via LAN and Router DSL and I want to monitoring Internet Activity of alla the machines via the PC on witch I have installed Wingate Server.

Now all works right, when Wingate Server is ON all the activities of the others PC in monitored, but if the server PC is off, the others PC can outgoing in Internet normally, as before I install Wingate, even on these PC is running Wingate Client....

My desire is that when the wingate server PC is off any ather PC go on Internet and only when wingate server PC is on the others can go in Internet (that to monitoring exactly alla the internet activities).

How can I setting wingate to work exactly as I want?

Hi there

If understand correctly you dont want anyone to have Internet access once you have switched of the WinGate PC?

From your description I think the only feasible way to do it would be to have the WinGate PC be the only computer connected to the DSL router on one network card.
Connect the second network card in the WinGate PC to the rest of the network via a hub/switch.

In this scenario the WinGate PC must be turned on for the rest of the network to access the Router/DSL/Internet.

OK you have understand correctly.

Your response is a good way to do, but I think that there was also another way to do that without installing another lan card; is not possible that Wingare is not able to administrate this problem.

If I install wingate only on server and than on the clients instead of install wingare client I set for example Internet Explorer and the others programs, with proxy adress and port of the PC with wingate server probably I allow to the clients to access to Internet only when Server is on.... I try that but I was'nt able to work that.

Is my idea a good way to operate or Wingate not support that?

Your way will work as well - WinGate will support that with no problems.

I think the only problem with that, as Erwin was pointing out, is that nothing stops your users from just changing the switch in IE and then going out through the router itself; which will defeat the object of only allowing access when the Server is on.
