changed administrator's name resets rcs's bindings

Postby rtchong » Oct 28 04 4:14 am

On our server, wg 523, win2k, I have changed the administrator's name from "administrator" to "abcdefgh". Now whenever I restart the server I have no access to its remote control service until I enable the bindings. In the rcs's log I read that "abcdefgh" failed authorization.

How can I resolve this problem?

Make sure that this account is still a member of the "Administrators" group.

Group membership is remembered by user name... if you rename the administrator account, then it may lose its group membership.

In fact I wouldn't recommend renaming it. If you want another account to be admin, then disable the administrator account, and create a new user, make it a member of the Administrators group.

Hmmmm

on second thought....

WinGate doesn't allow you to change a user name anyway - so this is in the OS user database?

Oops, time flies .... but then this problems appears only when I have to restart the server.

The user "abcdefgh" is also in the administrator group. I guess that since WG would not let you change the username you are actually stuck to "administrator" which I wanted to change with security in mind.

Back to the "administrator"-account.

Thanks anyway.

You can disable the Administrator account, and create another one which is a member of the Administrators group, and use that instead.
