Bandwidth throttling

Postby in4ni » Nov 20 04 5:47 pm

Can wingate do this?

i have 300 hardwired users that i am going to sell internet connectivity to.

i want to sell bandwidth in 10kbs increments (the more money they fork out the more bandwidth they get) client must be able to jack in and surf without proxy configuration (NAT) I want the bandwidth the ba assigned by ip addess or mac address. Also some clients must be able the have public ip addresses for direct incoming connections

Thank you

You can surely use WG bandwidth control. However, it relies only on IP addresses and ports - no MAC-based filtering.

so what do i need to do to get the bandwidth control up? I have been using wingate for 3 years, and now I need to learn to control my roommate's bandwidth because his BT is taking up all the resources.

First off, you have to enable it (General properties on ENS page). Then you have to create a restriction and then a rule, which uses this restriction. Take a look at the documentation and if there are any doubts, just let me know - I'll try to clarify the issues you might be having.

The very first checkbox on the ENS General page says "Enable driver" or something like that - is it checked on your machine?

What OS are you running on Wingate machine? Bandwidth control is available on NT systems and higher (2K, XP+)

No, XP home should be fine - I'll run some checks and get back to you.

thanks, and FYI, my xp is a legit copy and i just recently updated to SP2 with its firewall turned off(i'm afraid of that it would interfere with wingate's operation.)

Hi,

Just got a confiramtion from one of our developers that XP Home with SP2 works just great. However, the current license can block BT mode - what license do you have for Wingate?

Was it the original v6 license or you upgraded v5 license upwards?

Ok, we've looked up your license data - it does not have BT support because it's a home license and for BT to be enabled you need enterprise license. My advise is to contact Matt Parker (mattp@qbik.com) and discuss your license upgrade with him.

Nope, I am afraid not - Bandwidth Throttling is available for high-end licenses only.
