Wrong entries in "Network Interfaces"

Postby eckhard.schindler » Nov 24 04 6:39 am

Often my network adapter is shown by the following entries in "Network Interfaces":
127.0.0.1 (with network card icon)

But it should be shown this way:
127.0.0.1 (with loopback icon)
192.168.0.1 (with network card icon)

When the entry is wrong some services do not work (e.g. POP3-proxy-service) because the right bindings to the network interface are missed.

After restart of the computer the entries are correct. But after some days they are always going to be wrong.

How to fix this bug?

I use WinGate version 5.2.3 (Build 901)

I've never heard of that happening before. So, a few questions to try and work out what is happening. First, is your 192.168.0.1 address allocated by DHCP?

Secondly, WinGate 6.x works with a version 5, 4 and 3 license key - so, you could install the new version and use it with your old license key. You then get the benefit of an fixes. (Such as the new binding policies and gateways; which are a significant improvement over the old bindings and interfaces)

Some details:
- The IP address 192.168.0.1 is configured manually,
- this PC is configured as standard gateway,
- WinGate is resident on this PC,
- DHCP service of WinGate is configured as fully automatic,
- the network has simply one other PC,
- the IP adress of the second PC is configured manually,
- so the DHCP service is not used.

The second PC sometimes is shut down - so the network adapter of the gateway PC does not have an active connection. May be the bindings get lost during this time (I did never observe this).

Next time I will try a new version of WinGate. Thank you for the advice.

Crossover cable? Then yes - that makes a lot of sense. So we have seen this (The interfaces disappearing, if not the icon changing - but maybe I just never noticed that)

WG 6 has dynamic binding policies - which fixes this type of scenario perfectly.

license question

Postby eckhard.schindler » Nov 27 04 10:03 am

Doesn't the dynamic bindings feature of WinGate 6 need a new license? I didn't find a specification which features do it.
