port forrwarding

how can my network admin forrward me a random port thru wingate that i will use to have an active connection on the internet.
For example to use DC++ as active user.

I'm not very familiar with DC++ - when you say as an "Active" user, does that mean you're accepting connections or making them?

If you're only making them, you should be able to NAT out, as per normal. Neil has tried this before:

let me give you anoher example (i think it's good): to be able to have a ftp server... only that when someone tries to conect to that ftp server it must enter also a port.... that is given to me from the network admin. (i think is the same thing with the port from dc++)

No, unfortunately not. If you do want to run a 'server' behind WinGate you need to setup a specific port redirect. (Otherwise anybody, including hackers, etc. connecting to any port will be redirected to you ... )

Step 4:
Fill out the personal information of this page. Use the Connection Type drop down box to select the type of connection you have. Now we are going to configure the Connection Settings section. Make sure there is a green dot in the Active radio button. Enter the external ip address of your router into the IP box. This is important you will not be able to connect without doing that. Your web browser is reporting that your external ip address is 210.55.214.99. Choose a port for DC++ to run on, and enter it into the Port box. If you want to use the standard default port enter 1412 into that box. This is the port you will have to forward to run DC++, so remember it. You need to forward the TCP and UDP protocols of the port you chose in your router. Do that after you complete this guide.

Using the specified port (Rather than a random port) will allow it to work through WinGate easily.

this is the thing... i don't know how to do that :) is it done from wingate? Or from where?

Ah. Okay, if you just want a static port, not a random one, then go into GateKeeper - open Extended Networking. Switch to the "Port Security" tab. There, you will find a list of ports. There are several different options ("LAN to WinGate PC", "LAN to Internet", etc.)

Pick the appropriate one ("Internet to LAN") and select the appropriate protocol ("TCP") and click "Add". Then, simply fill in all the details (Port number, etc.) but the action should be "Redirect".
