Mail server and beyond

Postby Surfer » Apr 08 05 2:46 am

Hello there!

I have a mail server on Linux platform in my LAN.
LAN connected to internet thru Wingate 6.0.4.
I have no ideas how properly configure WG for this server.
I stuck when thinking about sending and receiving mail processes.
Please show me the way. :)

Hi Surfer,

It all depends on what you want to do. This document details various scenarios. I suspect scenario 2 will be the one you are interested in configuring.

Ok, i have a mail server in the LAN. This mail server must send mail to outside world (NAT?), and receive mail from outside (mapping?).
That's all.
Another servers connecting to WG machine and she make mapping to server. Server connecting to unpredictable ip's of another servers, so the NAT might be more applicable. I'm right or not?

Did you have a look at scenario 2?

Scenario 2 Introduction wrote:In this situation a 3rd party standalone mail server is responsible for looking after email on your network. There are actually two ways that this situation could be set up. The 3rd party mail server could either be configured to deliver its mail to the WinGate mail server which then delivers this email out to the internet, or the 3rd party mail server could ‘pass through’ WinGate and deliver the email directly itself. We would recommend that you still use WinGate’s mail server in this chain as this then gives the added safety of WinGate’s Anti-Virus. This section will detail how WinGate needs to be configured to get both situations working.
