Firefox browser won't work thru proxy

Postby rpmiller » Apr 05 05 2:15 pm

Hi,
I'm using 6.0.4 and it has been working great as long as everyone uses IE. I'm using NTLM authentication and wingate is running on my NT server. I recently downloaded Firefox (1.02) and set up the proxy just like in IE - the proxy server IP is my wingate machine and port 80. I try to open a web page but I get the access denied message. However, Wingate does not log any activity in the message log. Anyone else having this problem?

Thanks,
Ryan

No, I'm actually surprised you mentioned Firefox as the browser causing problems because in all our test cases with it it was the best behaved browser in terms of authentication.

That said, I just noticed I'm using 1.0.1 so maybe time to upgrade and try that again. You could have a look at the "Saved Passwords" screen. Tools -> Options -> Privacy - Saved Passwords.

Hi Pascal,

I tried a bunch of things - including your Saved Passwords screen, but nothing works. If I turn off NTLM authentication in the about:config, it prompts for a username and password then works. I noticed there are a bunch of NTLM authentication settings in about:config. Do I have to set some or all of these?

Thanks again,

Ryan

I have "network.automatic-ntlm-auth.allow-proxies" set to "false" which means it prompts me for a login.

If you click in "filters" from about:config and type "ntlm" it should be the top option.

That seems to work ok.

Yes, setting that to false seems to work. I was hoping for the transparent-type of login, using the current Windows login, like IE does. Guess that's a firefox issue, though.

Thanks,

I was testing on my local machine (Proxy through 127.0.01) and that worked fine with that setting enabled. Is their any synchronicity between the user on the client PC and the WinGate Server?
