6.04 WG hung

Postby saubrey » Apr 09 05 3:07 am

I upgraded to 6.04 build 1025. It ran for 8 days, then the WWW proxy, FTP proxy, and POP3 proxy stopped accepting new connections. Socks proxy continued to run correctly. GateKeeper got "Unable to connect to server" message when I attempted to open GateKeeper to see what was going wrong with WG. "Stop Server" from the sys tray icon failed to stop WG. I had to use pskill to kill WG. CPU utilzation was very low. I am running W2k adv srv sp4. I've had this problem of WG hanging for 3 years. Each new version of WG seems to be a little better. With prior versions 4 & 5, WG would only run for 3 or 4 days before hanging, now with version 6 it will run 8 - 20 days, but then it hangs. I will turn on all the debugging info you want me to turn on to help fix this problem. Thanks, Steve

if you go into the start menu folder for WinGate there is a program called "Advanced Options". it has a 'debug" page where you can turn on the deadlock analysis debugging. Your roblem sounds remarkably like a deadlock, and that output might provide useful debug information.

I turned debugging On. I'll send you the lock analysis file when WG hangs.

On April 9th I turned on Use deadlock detection and Check lock precedence. WG has not hung once since then. Since these two options don't seem to cause noticible performance degradation and since turning them on seems to have stopped WG from hanging, I'll leave them on.
