Infos before buying

Hello everybody!

I'm from Italy.
I need to throttle bandwidth for one client.
My actual config is as follows: all client (includes my PC) connected with static IP to my router (192.168.2.x). One client must be throttled to limit bandwidth (P2P client).
Now I have added a second NIC in my PC but how can I configure wingate in this way: when I need throttling I simply move client cable from router to my second NIC (wingate routing). When I do not need throttling (during night) I remain client cable in my HW router. In few words, is possible to configure wingate exactly as hw router, so I don't need to re-configure that client?
Bye

With Wingate throttling you can throttle down any IP-based traffic from any client or to any server. Throttling rules can also include time schedules so you can make a rule active during only certain periods of time.

Thank you for your fast answer.

My PC during night is off, so I absolutely need to move throttled client cable from my 2nd NIC to HW router, transparently to that client.
I need to know if I can configure wingate exactly as HW router.

Yes, by all means Wingate can serve as a normal router.

HD router and client configuration

Postby PUCCETTONE » Apr 12 05 12:18 am

Well!

The client to throttle is 192.168.2.18 (static IP) and gateway is 192.168.2.1 (HW router).
Can I set so at the same time wingate, without change ANYTHING on throttled client?

There are risks of IP conflict?

Moreover, Wingate works as WinXP service?

Thanks again

Erm... No, it probably wouldn't without altering the client's network properties - because the client should have it's default gateway pointing to your wingate machine.

mmmhhh.... :-(

This is a great problem. I can't change client parameters.....
It must be TRANSPARENT to throttled client.

Any ideas to resolve this dilemma? (but no new router with QoS, please).

The way I'd do it would be to switch the client to use your machine as a router. Does the client have static IP or DHCP-allocated one?

Yes. It should be the best thing, but my PC is in my sleep room....
During night is hard to sleep with fans and hard disks on.

:))) Well, in that case your option would be to install another machine with Wingate, which will serve as a router - and will use your existing HW router as an upstream gateway.
