Wingate and FTP

Postby Passi » Apr 14 05 12:24 am

Hi,

I have a problem at a client of mine connecting to a site using FTP. Basically the client connects with custom written software using Port 8000 (TCP). It must then be able to receive files through the client on FTP Port 21 and send out files on FTP Port 20. What's happening is that the client opens the software, pushes the connect button and enters his username/password. Software shows as connecting, makes contact with the site and then as soon as the client wants to download anything (usually .doc documents) it just freezes there. Checking Wingate's activity log, it shows the client as connected on the ip on port 8000. The second line of activity is showing a problem. It just sits there with icon FTP:\ and no data coming in. Ports 8000,21 and 20 are open in Wingate and in ENS but still no data coming in. Any Ideas???

Regards,

How do your clients use WinGate? If they are using NAT there will be no association between the data channel and the control channel (And thus no protocol inspection to work out which ports to open, etc.)

Your best option might be to use a proxy service for FTP in this instance.
