Mail client on a MAC

Postby mondpowers » Apr 21 05 11:33 pm

I have setup a mail server on our domain using Wingate 6.0.4 build 1025. all our Outlook client runs fine except this one MAC which uses the entourage client. It can retrieve emails but can't send using the smtp port 25.
Does it follow that the pop3 server and the smtp server must be the same? The mac can retrieve the email from the remote mail server but can't send using our wingate mail server.

The SMTP server settings on ENTOURAGE has the IP number of our wingate server but the debug codes on the SMTP logs sezs:

Failed authorisation: terminated because their server sent a command buffer that did not contain a valid SMTP command.

From that syslog message, it sounds as if the entourage client is sending a non standard initial command. Normally an email client will send either a HELO or an EHLO. It would seem in this case that Entourage sent something else.

If you turn on full debug logging (under the logging pane of the SMTP server) in WinGate and try sending a mail from Entourage again, and post the debug information here from the SMTP log, that should show us what the client is trying to do.

Regards

Do the binding policies actually translate into a binding you can see at the top, which should be listed as "Started" ?
