Wingate Server and Windows 2K pro

Postby bench » Jul 02 05 7:03 am

The last installation of wingate I did was on a server running windows 2000 server and it was costly because of the license for the win 2k server. I would
like to know if wingate can function equally well if I were to install it on a server type pc running windows 2000 pro?

Some clients would like to have the proxy but the cost of the windows 2000 server license kicks up the price quite a bit. It would be great to be able to run it well with win 2k pro.

thanks.

Hi Bench,

I have installed WG on many systems using WinXP Pro as the WG "server". I'm sure any NT based OS would be fine. Works like a charm.

Wingate W2k Pro

Bench

No problems with wingate running on W2K Pro.

I've been running it on this OS for over a year now with no problems what so ever.

It's extremely stable, running on and Intel Celeron 1.4 & 256 Mb RAM as a proxy and mail server for a small home network sharing an ADSL connection.

OK, thanks to all for your help.

One more thing, do you have any other program running in the same server as the proxy? For example if I wanted to run just the proxy but not the mail server part of it and I wanted to run another mail server application. I wonder there would be any conflicts.

My assumption would be..... there would be no conflicts if the pop3 and smtp service in wingate are stopped. This will allow the port 25 and 110 to be claimed by another mail server
