Problems after upgrading to 6.0.4

Postby jacvb » Apr 02 05 9:53 am

Just upgraded and 2 problems:
1) no Internet access all over the lan as previously.
2) no administrator acces to Gatekeeper (also reseted administrator password in registry).

Every time I try to enter GK as administrator, either with o without password (blank) I get the message : 'connection with Wingate server terminated'

Qbik Wingate Engine service is running (also tried stop and running again).

Also tried to import previously saved registry but problems continues and
reinstaled again 6.0.4.

Any suggestion ?

Thnks in advance!

You could try deleting the Remote Control Service from the registry. Stop the WinGate service first and tt will automatically be recreated when you start the service.

Search this site for the instructions on how to delete it.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi

Which version did you upgrade from?

If prior to 6.0, then some things work a bit differently. Check the adapter settings in the network panel in GateKeeper to make sure they are internal/external as you expect.

Hi,
No suggestions yet, but I want to share my experience as I upgraded from 6.0.3 to 6.0.4 and run into your problem 1 (Admin access with GK is working allright though).
Checked all the bindings, but they were OK.
My workstations use NAT to access the internet. Inside I run a WWW and a FTP server which are accessible from the internet (using proxy's) and last but not least I use VPN for mobile support.
That worked excellent under 6.0.3 but nothing worked under 6.0.4 (though all definitions showed OK in GateKeeper).
I could browse the internet on the Wingate server itself (which is a dedicated machine, no other sofware installed, Windows stripped to the bare minimum to harden the OS). The internet connection is ADSL over PPTP (Alcatel Speedtouch + dailupnetworking).
Restarting the system did not help, there is just no traffic flowing through the Wingate machine.
I did not reactivate my licenses, because they showed active after the upgrade.
So I'm back to 6.0.3 and if I have some spare time again I will investigate a little bit more, but maybe the "golden hint" shows up here in our forum.

Regards,
Wim.

What OS are you both using? Also do you see anything ever appear in the Activity window when a client tries to connect? Any firewall hits? What response do you get on a client machine if you try telnetting to one of the proxies running in WinGate? Can a client successfully ping the WinGate machine? Can a client ping a machine on the internet? Can you telnet to anywhere on the internet?

Regards

At this moment, LAN access seems to be working; I think that redundant policies may be causing this, but still no access to Administrator.
Just trying your suggestion.

WG is working on W2003 Server computer.

Thnks.

I am having the same problem-no Internet access all over the lan(admin access is working(fresh install 6.0.4. Everything is set correctly. I am using Win XP pro sp2. Cannt see any activity in the Activity window(just the ip/name of the client machine). I try to use WGIC, it's working perfectly. Using www proxy is fine too. The only thing is i cann't use NAT.
Client can ping wingate server, but no the external ip(telnet too). Any solution.

1. Sometimes when WinGate is installed it may detect your network interfaces incorrectly, and firewall the wrong side of the computer. Could you check whether your adapters were marked as Internal / External correctly? Gatekeeper --> View Menu --> Network --> (Bottom center).

The network card facing your LAN should be marked as "Internal" and the network card / modem facing the internet should be marked as "External

2. Did you install ENS? Extended Networking Service? You need that to have NAT. If you do not have it, do a reinstall

Yes, the interface is detected correctly. 2 interface are enabled. Yes i have installed ENS and NAT is enabled. Try to uninstall and reinstall, but still same.

Whats the internal IP Address of the WinGate server, and an example client address? ( IP Address / Subnet / Defaut Gateway and DNS)
(Windows) Start Menu --> Run --> cmd --> ipconfig /all

What version of Windows you running?

You running ZoneAlarm or some other security suite .. Windows Firewall?

Edit:

Doh you got WinXP SP2 ....

For Windows Firewall.. Right Clcik My Computer --> Manage --> Services and Applications --> Services --> Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) ... Set startup type to disabled, and then stop the service

Your IP Address information looks fine, good to see you mask your publics too. Can you try removing WinRoute? The driver may still be loading at startup. (like ZoneAlarm does / used to??)

Otherwise, I think you better make a support ticket and reference this forum post ... http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=tickets&_m=submit

Try it, still won't work. I never installed zoneAlarm before. I am using SDSL connection. Using ZTE ZXDSL 732 (Run in Router MODE-PPPOA). Do wingate incompatible with this modem? When i change ZXDSL to Bridge mode(but i cann't get internet connection anymore), i try to open internet explorer in client machine, i can see Lookup DNS in Gatekeeper's Activity Window.
Note: I must use Router mode to get connection.(DHCP and NAT function in ZXDSL 732 Disabled)

Can you create a support ticket? http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=tickets&_m=submit and attach the requested info. Please reference this forum post.

a) Can you turn on all logging for the Extended Networking Service (ENS) (as shown in image below) and try to connect again from the client machine a few times?

b) Can you attach the following:

1. The WinGate NAT log file. ( C:\Program Files\WinGate\Logs\WinGate NAT\WinGate NAT.log )

2. Configuration Report (GateKeeper --> Options Menu --> Advanced --> "Save Report" button)

3. Exported registry (GateKeeper --> Options Menu --> Advanced --> "Save Registry Settings" button)

Summary from support ticket with Alceon,

He had installed Sygate Office Network before(had uninstalled), but there was still an entry in registry(HLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services) to load some driver. He deleted the key and reinstalled Wingate. Problem fixed.
