change wingate host computer

Postby Ruud van der Made » Jul 15 05 9:35 am

hello support people,
I want to change the pc on which my wingate is running; I do know there is a way to do it with this 6.0 release, but I cannot retreive it out of the help text nor from the forum. could you please inform me; the hardware extra's will be the installation of a new extra LAN-interface card into the new pc. And then : I know quite well how to handle the hardware etc. but I will also switch o.s. from W98SE to XP-sp2; can I expect problems?
regards

Hi Ruud,

If you have already activated your license in a version 6 installation it will need to be deactivated before you can activate it on a new machine.

We have a knowledge base article explaining how to transfer your license, you'll find that here, http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=kn ... ils&_i=106

You can also export your settings so that you don't have to recreate all of your policies and groups. There is also a knowledge base article on this, you'll find that here, http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=kn ... ils&_i=108

Please note that if you're transferring a registry file between 98 and XP you may need to copy the contents of the old registry file into a registry file created in an XP installation. You can do this by exporting the WinGate registry file from the XP machine then simply copying the contents of the WinGate registry from the 98 machine over the top of the XP file.

When you are running WinGate on an XP machine we recommend disabling the XP personal firewall. The only sure-fire way of doing this is by disabling the service from starting. Go to the services applet, find Windows Internet Connection Sharing/Personal Firewall, disable the service from starting and stop the service.

Matt

just another question about de-activation

Postby Ruud van der Made » Jul 18 05 8:30 am

Matt,
When I look in GateKeepers window for de-activation, I get followong text after selection of the key

WinGate 5.x Plus 6 user license
License id: ******
Registered to: Ruud van der Made
Note This activation gives you the reduced features applicable to your version 5 key. To access the newer features you will need to purchase an upgrade.

I run Wingate 6.0.4, so I hasitate about what's true? Can you clearify?, Thanks,
Ruud van der Made

Hi Ruud,

This message is simply telling you that you're running version 6 with a version 5 license. There is nothing wrong with this, as we encourage all of our customers to run the latest version, whether they upgrade their license or not.

If you decide that you want access to the new features that we've added since you purchased your license then you will need to upgrade your license, however we offer a good rebate for your original license purchase, so it's usually quite a reasonable upgrade price. You can check what it will cost by entering your license details into our online upgrade wizard here, https://commerce.qbik.com/purchase.php however we do recommend that you run the free version 6 trial license first to make sure you do need the new features.

Regards,

Matt
