MTU questions.

Postby SignatureProperties » Jul 21 05 5:16 am

Hello,

I seem to have an MTU issue, since most things work, but I get hangs on large directories or large ammounts of data going to outlook/exchange.

My question is: Do I change the mtu setting on the server, the end client machine, or both? Is there a best practice?

And lastly, is there any documentation that explains why MTU is an issue?

Hi,

Pascal has a post on it here, http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=3769 (at the bottom) which tells you dow to do it.

We also have a knowledge base article on MTU issues, http://support.qbik.com/index.php?_a=kn ... Gate%20VPN

So, does that mean it only needs to be set on the client, and not the vpn server? I already knew how to set it, just wasn't clear on what machine to set it on.

Seemed to help a bit, but I am still having trouble with one particular file server.

The big folders simply lock up the computer when trying to browse. I set my mtu all the way down to 400, which is the minimum, so is there anything else I can try?

When you are setting the MTU, what interface are you setting it with? The networking tab in Wingate? If you are, there are some small issues with it.

Can you try to use this utility on each side of the VPN. I referenced it in this post: http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?p=17505#17505
