WinGate firewall letting everything in.

Postby chief » Aug 06 05 10:21 am

Hi,

I just tried installing wingate for the third time (im trying out different software router programs to see which is best at forwarding) well I wanted to try out wingate again (i uninstalled it a day into the trial yesterday) so i installed it again today (after trying sygate home network and winproxy both of which seemed to have uninstalled properly).

I then went to grc.com and found to my dismay all my ports were closed except for two that were open. This hadnt happened last time I tried wingate so I uninstalled it and tried again- same thing happened. Even when i change the firewall to High it doesnt do a thing.

Atm i have the XP f/w enabled to give me some security.

Have you any ideas why wingate's firewall just isnt working and how to fix it so I can continue my trial.

Thanks.

Gidday Chief,

How are your network connections set up? If you check your network tab in GateKeeper do you see your adapters listed in the network connections pane? Your internet adapter should be marked as external and your LAN adapter should be marked as internal.

An external adapter will be firewalled by default and an internal adapter will not. If you need to change the setting just double click the adapater and you'll get a properties dialogue box, here you can change it from auto-detect to external.

WinGate determines whether an adapter is internal or external depending on the IP address of the adapter, a public IP address will be deemed as external, a private IP address will be internal.

Hope this helps,

Matt
