Wingate implementation question/problem

Postby tigoluxa » Aug 15 05 10:16 am

Hello,

I have a sonicwall firewall with content security/gateway antivirus/intrusion prevention modules. The firewall is configured to do NAT and port forwarding to mail server/website/ftp server. I want to add wingate proxy server to increase the security of the network, especially as http, ftp and mail proxy (I found that most viruses come to my network thru email). Though, I'm not sure how to configure the proxy in the LAN and what is the best architecture to implement. Can anyone give me help knowing that some computers in the network are not allowed to access the internet.

Thank you.

The best option would be to have the WinGate server as a gateway machine that the LAN clients have to pass through to reach the internet.

The WinGate server would have two NICs, one going to the SonicWall firewall, the other to a hub/switch on the LAN. This allows you to control all client access to the web and scan incoming web traffic and email.

Thank you for the input.

Now I have installed the second NIC on the proxy server machine. Originally, all the computers have private addresses of the form 192.168.168.x. The IP of the NIC connected to the Sonicwall is 192.168.168.136. I think I need to re-assign IP's for those computers connected to the proxy server, am I wrong? But what kind of IP do I need to use? I mean can the computers connected to the proxy server (and the related NIC of the proxy) can they still have the form 192.168.168.x?

Thank you.

Is there a complete user guide/manual that I can refer to in order to have full and correct deployment of wingate. I'd really appreciate that.

Thank you
