Message for Matt "connection keeps droping"

Postby Cliff Dungey » Aug 14 05 10:10 am

Hi Matt,
I'am having the same issue at the third site as I was having at the second.
This is what I did:
Linksys router
WinXP Pro box
Disables ICS in Winxp
Installed Wingate VPN
Disables DHCP in wingate
Imported VPN data
Copyed new driver to the windows\system32\drivers folder
Rebooted

When I connect its solid but drops.
No errors that I can see
Server and second location are solid
Two laptops are solid.
I have sent login info to you via emain

I've been speaking to Joan about it but we haven't found the problem yet.

Hi, Cliff

Your router - does it have timeouts for TCP connections configured? Can you, please, make sure, that the timeouts are longer than 90 seconds?

Hi Genie,
This Linksys router "BEFSR41" does not have the timeouts...

Thanks
Cliff.

Not yet - but we have something to test - Matt will run the test tomorrow and hopefully we will be able to identify who blocks traffic from the server.

Hi Matt and all,
I have expanded the VPN network and I have found anouther issue...
When a user is connected to the server location they are not able to see or ping the test connetion "VPN server at mountain location" and when on mountain location all I see or can ping is server not the other locations.

the test connection was setup by you and is set to Local Network on server.

Test is the VPN server name you created for the mountain location.
server is connect to mountain, MPDServer is connects to server and all other connections connect to server.

WOW clear as mud.

Cliff.

This all being said I need to get Mountain Server to Connect to server.

Hi, Cliff

We found one potential problem that might exhibit the behaviour you were observing - as soon as we have the fixed version of the engine we'll send it to you.

Hi Cliff,

Unfortunately we're not ready yet, it may take a while. We are looking at rolling back to an earlier version just to get that mountain location working in the meantime, but we're still trying to find the best way to do this.

Sorry for the delay, but we haven't forgotten about you!

Hi Matt,

I will go there this week and remove the router if you want.

Hi Matt and all,
I have been at the mountain location all day today and this is what I found.

Connected my laptop to the second port on the Linksys router, my laptop connection to the main server was now dropping like the MPDServer.

Removed the Linksys router and connected my laptop direct to the cable modem and the VPN connection was solid.

Connected the MPSServer direct to the cable modem and the connection was solid.

Updated the firmware in the router and still no luck.
I have reset the router and still no luck.
I will replace the router on Wed morning and see what I get then...

Hi Matt and All,
I have installed the new router at the Mountain location "Linksys WRT54G"...
Restarted the system and I was not able to connect as I was getting a protocol error on the new version of Wingate.
I uninstalled Wingate 6.0.5, deleted the folder in program files, installed Wingate VPN 204 and imported the VPN connection info.

After that it was working great...

Thanks for the help.

Cliff
