Invisible proxy acess for client machines

Postby iancoates » Aug 18 05 11:11 pm

How is it possibe to change my network clients to use Wingate, operating with a port of 81, wihtout individually changing all clients internet explorer configurations.

Is it possible using the DHCP server to automate the gateway when the ip address is next renewed? Or is there another method?

We are currenlty using DHCP method to provide a direct gateway to the internet, but I would like to resume using wingate for its filtering and logging options

Can this be done if we change the port from the default 80?

First change the WWW Proxy service to Port 81

Create a TCP mapping. Please let me know if this solution fits your requirements.

Yes.

1. a) Automatically

1. b) Alternatively, Manually

Instead of manually setting proxies, lets say WinGates DHCP assigns Gateways, and DNS to the clients so they can use NAT. We can intercept any NAT connection using port 80 (81 if required) And pipe it through the proxy. This allows the benefit of caching, virus scanning plugin, puresight content filter plugin etc.

Please let us know how you get on, and whether you need an alternative goal.

Already using Windows DHCP

Will this work if I am using Windows DHCP server. I have disabled the Wingate DHCP as it was confusing Windows DHCP. can the two work together or not?

You should only have one; Windows or WinGate.
