Upgrading 5.x to 6.x, licensing questions

Postby Xander » Aug 26 05 1:37 am

These questions are for Qbik Sales Staff most likely.
We have Wingate 5.x Pro Enterprise unlimited users license.
Searching the forum for upgrading details I found this:

One other thought - unless you need any of the new features you do not need to upgrade. Qbik has always had a policy of allowing the re-use of old version license keys with the new version software. (So you get the fixes, just not the new features).

Does it means that we need to pay for 6.x Professional 250+ users license, if we want for "Remote database / Domain controller or Active directory access" and Bandwidth control?

P.S. Can you exactly explain me, what license type we use? I'm totally confused, because:

1. Our financial documents says that it's "Wingate 5.x Pro Enterprise unlimited users".

2. Our .txt file provided by our dealer on CD says it's "Wingate 5.x Enterprise unlimited users"

3. Gatekeeper's Help/License says it's "5 Full"

4. Your upgrade cost calculator (?) at
https://commerce.qbik.com/purchase.php says it's "5.x Pro unlimited users"

I suspect the latter. Am I correct?

P.P.S. If it's important, that "Wingate 5.x Pro Enterprise unlimited users" license included Wingate VPN, Antivirus and GateFilter plug-ins.

Thanks in advance and sorry for my english :)

The old version 5 Enterprise licenses were bundles which consisted of an Unlimited User Pro license VPN Host and plugins as you indicated. This is why it shows as a 5 Pro license.

From what I can see in the code you should get the features without having to pay an upgrade cost. All that should be required will be to install Version 6 and run the activation client for your existing license. Matt just confirmed this via email as well.

If you are going to install 6.0.4 I'd recommend that you backup your existing 5.x configuration during the installation process when it prompts you. Then you can activate your current licenses and use them with 6.0.4.
