Winsock Redirector

I have configured a cascading proxy in the www proxy service but when I connect to the Wingate server using the Wingate client the proxy that I have specified is not used.

Its as though the winssocks redirector is not using the www proxy settings at all, I can go to the services tab, stop all services, and still make a connection on the client computer. As long as the Winsocks Redirector service is running on the systems tab I can go online.

This is strange because the only place I have specified an upstream proxy is for the www proxy service on the services tab. My proxy works the same with that service stopped or going, so it looks as though the winsocks redirector is not forced to use the upstream proxy.

How can I connect with a Wingate client and have the winsock redirector use the www proxy service?

That's a good question, and if I'm understanding you right should you not be able to just configure the web browser you are using to use the proxy service? Also, why install the client on the machine at all if you're only planning on using the web proxy service.

When I use WWW proxy on my network, I normally change the default ports and then configure the clients web browsers to work with those specific settings, inputting the Wingate server IP as the proxy address. I hope what I'm saying is helpful and that I haven't completely misunderstood your situation :)

The browser will use the www proxy settings if I point the browse directly to the Wingate server without using the client.

However, I need to use the Wingate client because I have an app that needs to go through the www proxy service, or specifically through a cascading proxy.

Greg, on the WWW Proxy Server Properties screen, check to ensure you have the right interface specified for the 'Connection to be made out on the following interface only' box.

Also:
1. Make sure you are no longer specifying a proxy in IE.
2. Enabled the Winsock Client on the client machine.
3. Ensure the subnet of your two NIC's are different.

If anyone else runs into this same problem.

goto services tab > www proxy server properities > sessions > and turn on redirect ENS an WGIC sessions.

fixed it right up for me!
