What is this extra icon and how can I get rid of it?

I am a new user. I have everything up and running just fine but there are two icins in the system tray (running W2K) associated with Wingate. One is the monitor in front of the earth's globe and the other is 2 monitors connected by a green arrow.
Hovering the cursor over either presents the message "wingate engine running".

Doubleclicking either starts up Gatekeeper.

Right clicking the monitor and Globe presents options to start gatekeeper, start engine, and stop engine.

Right clicking the 2 monitors presents an option to start Wingate VPN.

I don't need VPN and as far as I know I did nothing to enable it. (isn't VPN an extra cost option?) If I right click and select the exit option the 2 monitor icon goes away. How can I make it go away for good - I'm assuming there is an option enabled somewhere that results in the 2 monitor icon but I can't seem to find it. Obviously this is no big deal but I would like to understand what I am looking at and it annoys me.

VPN monitor is created in the Startup folder so it is loaded at boot.

To delete the shortcut, access the folder from:

Start --> Programs --> Startup --> VPN monitor or similar.

Actually I reckon this should be an option at setup to 'de select' install VPN monitor, because in my own case I have to manually delete the shortcut as described above, in fact I did it at a new installation yesterday.

Fail to do so and the client eventually queries 'why is there this extra icon in my notification area' resulting in a raft of messages or even a callout to keep them happy!.

One other area I have found helps SOHO [single user] situations is to also delete the Wingate Engine Monitor from the same directory.

The reason being, where a system is used as an everyday workstation or even portable / notebook, eventually boredom or some other desire results in someone logging into GateKeeper to 'accelerate' their internet experience by changing all the values, so I leave it as just a System service accessible from the menu only, or in extreme cases [hasn't happened yet] delete the Wingate menu folder as well.

Thanks...I was concerned that whatever software that was loaded which displayed the icons might be required for proper Wingate operation so I didn't want to "not load" them before asking the experts...
