intranet and user login

Postby Nate » Aug 02 05 9:16 pm

gday

im toying with wingate currently and have run into a situation. Our current proxy server is set up so that the general user can access the business intranet page (no login required), but if they want to access the rest of the web (bar authorised web sites), they need to login. Is there a way i can do something similar where by every user can access the intranet page without having to log in as either a guest or there own given username, then when they want to access the web, they can log in.

also, i was wondering what the best way to restrict guest access is. How can i set it so that the Guest account has access to only authorised web pages.

you will have to forgive me for probably so simple questions as im just a junior who has had this task fall onto my lap (IT Dept with no networking experience)

thanks in advance

To restrict the pages the Guest account can access, simply add a banlist rule to block all sites except the ones you want (eg yoursite.com). This would obviously be done under a policy for the Guest user on the WWW service.

Make sure you have enabled Java login.

I had difficulty with the redirect as well simply because we have 3 IIS servers. Are you running group policy on these machines? Is Wingate currently setup using NAT or acting as a proxy server? If you're configuring your IE clients for a proxy you could always use the bypass proxy for local requests and add the servername of the local intranet server.
