FTP connect reset by peer error

Postby Frederick Wong » Oct 28 05 4:52 am

We are running Wingate v5.07 build 826 and use NAT. We used to transmit files between SEVERAL FTP sites without problem. Suddenly we are experiencing problem to upload files to ONE particular site. Files were uploading from workstation behind Wingate, and there was a message ‘Connect reset by peer’ appeared during upload with large file in size then the upload terminated. We have tried many options includes FTP from many other workstations but same error occurred. However, if we unplugged the cable for ISP connection on the server running Wingate and connect it the workstation directly, then upload works fine, no problem at all. Please help.

Hi

Were any service packs or security updates applied to the WinGate machine recently?

WinGate 5.0.7 is very old now - do you know you can run WinGate 6 with a previous version license?

Yes, there were windows/security updates applied regularly on Wingate machine which running windows 2000. Does it cause any conflict with Wingate & FTP? If do, any suggestion to resolve it?

For version 6 upgrade, is there any instruction to review? Can the upgrade run on top of version 5 without major reconfiguration?

Different service packs can make significant changes to your networking operations.

WinGate 5.0.7 is pretty old. I think we even had issues with 2k SP4 on that version.

As for installing over the top of 5, most of your settings are retained, and the rest are approximated. What you need to check if you upgrade is service bindings.

Bindings have been replaced by binding policies, which tell WinGate how to choose which interfaces etc to bind to - it is a lot more flexible and powerful, allows you to bind to multiple ports per service, to specific interfaces (including dialup, which wasn't available for 5.x) etc.

Hi Adrien,

According to our windows update log, we were running W2K SP4 for long period without problem and we just applied several latest security update recently.

However, there is something we don’t understand. We are experiencing the problem with ONE particular ftp-site ONLY. If problem related to security patches, why the patches have no affect to all other ftp-sites.

By the way, we don't have window to upgrade wingate to v6.0 for another 2 weeks. Therefore, is there any other suggestion to resolve the problem? Please advice.

Thanks,
Fred
