multiple wingate servers (DNS Looping is happening) *urgent*

Postby gsharad007 » Nov 24 05 7:48 pm

hi,

i have three internet connections all on three diff systems.

1 x Win2003 + wingate server (w Ms DHCP and DNS)
2 x WinXP + wingate server (w Wingate DNS)

problem is since i have setup the 2 win xp machines with wingate i am getting the dns.exe on the 2003 server using lots of memory and cpu. i figure it to be a lookup loop.

since all three connection run simultaneously and each client is to be configured for one of the three. i cant understand wat to setup correctly

Hi

YOu need to stop WinGate from using the Win2003 server for DNS. To do this,

Start->Programs->WinGate->Advanced Options.

Select the DNS tab, and enter the IP address of the 2003 server machine.

Regards

If you look in GateKeeper when this happens do you see a lot of DNS requests?

You should be able to see where they are coming from, and check that machine to see what DNS server it is using.

If you can't see it, try disabling the DNS server on one of the machines, and point all your users to just one of the DNS servers for DNS.

yes i do c a lot of requests coming from many machines.

DHCP is distributing all the three Wingate servers as the DNS servers.

What about the WinGate Servers? Do they use each-other as DNS Servers as well?

Would it be possible for you to post (Or email to the address listed in my profile) the results of an "ipconfig /all" for the W2003 and WXP servers as well as one of the client computers, please?

It will definately be something related to how the different DNS Servers interact with eachother, but without seeing the IPs in use and which DNS Servers have been specified for each network card, etc. it will be a bit difficult to diagnose.
