Port 515 blocked running wingate client

Postby cgolden » Nov 29 05 7:43 am

Hello,

I am fairly new to the administration of Wingate. I currently have a 100 user license of Wingate and I have successfully set up the WWW Proxy service and am also using the WRP defaults. I have upgraded to the 6.1.0 version of Wingate and ever since I have done that the Wingate Internet Client seems to block port 515. I use a software called SDI LPD which is an LPR application for the Windows PC. I had no problems with this prior to 6.1.0. When I start the SDI LPD application it gives me an error stating: "Port 515 in use by another application" and I can never spool print jobs from another machine to it. When I disable Wingate Internet Client (via toggle), I can print to port 515 just fine. Is there a new setting or something I am missing, and if so where do I find those options to not tie up PC ports for printing, etc.
Thanks in advance,

Chris Golden

We fixed a bug relating to the responses sent from the Server where you either had no Central Configuration available (Because of licensing) or no Central Configuration setup. This would have altered the behavior in that the WGIC clients would now correctly check their local application lists to determine how to behave in the absence of central configuration.

Your easiest option might be to add the appropriate application either to the central configuration OR to the local application list on the WGIC clients and set it to run in LOCAL mode. That way it will not tie up a port through the WG Server. (Assuming that the printing is to a local machine)
