Bandwidth Limit Not working well !

Postby Keanu_Reefs » Jan 12 06 6:41 am

Hi there

I have Wingate Ver. 6.0.4 , and im trying to limit a ADSL ( 8 Megabit connection ) with Java Auth. and a limit for 100 Kb/s for download and 1 GB montly traffic.

The problems that im facing is that when i limit the Bandwidth for exemple 25% of the traffic , the clients can only download at maximum velocity about 30 KB/s , this applys to all of the percentagem valors ( exemple : if i put 10 % it gives me the same download value :/ )

The other problem is that when i do the monthly traffic limit the counter doesnt stop the connection when the client passes the 1 GB traffic.

Could somebody help me , im running a little bitt desperate :(

PS: Sorry my bad engish :P

Hi,

Where have you created the policy to restrict downloading to 1 GB/month? Are you setting this per user? You would need to create a policy where the account is only active while "bytes received for client" is "less than" 1,073,741,824. This will then deny access once the user has reached this amount of traffic, the user's traffic is listed on the user properties accounting page. You should make sure that you roll over the user audit files once a month to clear this value out.

Can you try and set a limit of 100kb/s instead of using a percentage of available bandwidth?

Thkx for the reply :)

Im using that policy per user and its all configurated just like your method is, and its not working :( , ive tried using percentage and the 100 kb/s limit but the results are the same , it doesnt work :(

Could be from ENS Driver ? im using a RTL8139 chip on my 2 network adapters ( not the 8029 )

How is your external connection is organized? Is it a built-in router/modem or an Ethernet-connected one?

Found the source of the problem !

its was the ENS driver that was in conflit with the NetLimiter , i was using the net limiter just to see the traffic in the server and i thoughted that maybe it was from it :) it worked all seem 100% fine :D

The only problems that i encountered was from the Msn Messenger 7.5 , but i resolved the issue by installing the MSN 7.0 :D , all just woks fine :)

Thkx for all the help :D
