I have now officially given up and am seeking help to regain some sanity.

Scenario: All new Dell PE830 with built-in Broadcom 10/100/1000 and additional Intel PRO/100B 10/100 adapter. Windows Server 2003 Standard with SP1 and updates. ENS won't load no matter what. "The ENS driver was not loaded. This may mean that it is missing or has been disabled"

Tried solutions: Demoted this DC to standalone server. Disabled all network related services (ICS, RAS, etc). Removed first one adapter, then disabled the other in BIOS. Uninstalled DHCP, DNS, WINS servers. Reinstalled WinGate numerous times, including wiping the registry and directories.

qbikhkxp.sys is present in windows\system32\drivers.

Is there a way to get a more intelligent error message from the ENS driver?

The trouble with this message is that if the driver is not loaded, Wingate has no information at all apart from the standard system message "File does not exist". What I would suggest is to check your Event Viewer to see if there are any qbik-related messages.

The event viewer just tells me that the Wingate service has loaded.

Also, the same version installs like a charm on my main server which I just upgraded from Wingate 5 on NT4 to Wingate 6 on 2k and launched just an hour ago; it's a 25-user Pro license. What I am trying to install is a 3-user branch office server, running 2k3. I have seen others having problems with modern servers in this forum when searching for "ENS"; is there a problem with 2k3? Code execution protection in newer processors? SMP servers (this is a dual core)?

Nope, it should not be a problem -we will run some tests to identify potential problem that might prevent the driver from being loaded.

Any progress on this one? :-) I just tried disabling the built-in adapter again, thinking that it might be a PCI Express problem (the built-in adapter is most likely sitting on PCI Express) and inserting a 64-bit PCI card instead but it's not working anyway...

No, unfortunately not at the moment - we are quite sure that the problem is in the way other drivers are loaded but we stil don't have PE830 to test with

Hi

We had this issue raised a couple of months ago by our Japanese distributors.

In the end we surmised it was a problem with a Dell-specific OS extension that was preventing Wingate from loading properly, and they had to re-install the OS from a different CD to get it working. The Dell-supplied one wouldn't work.

Don't know if that's an option, but...
