NTLM Authentication Issues

Postby ramarsh01 » Mar 22 06 5:21 pm

I am using wingate professional 6.04. On my network multiple users use the same computers, and i am using NTLM authentication. The problem is sometimes if a user logs out and another user logs in the user in Wingate is the previous user. The new user is using the existing session. How can i prevent this

thanks.

There is a session cooldown between the termination of a last session and when WinGate loses the status completely. It drops down from Authenticated to Assumed however as soon as the last session terminates. Then after 30 seconds loses the assumed status. If you are using the latest release this behavior can be adjusted in the registry.

However, some browsers will log you in automatically based on the logged in user's credentials. Are they logging out of Windows as well?

I am using wingate 6.04 professional edition and yes the users will logout of windows 2000 or windows xp. Can you tell me the registry settings to chanage the timeout value that you mentioned? Will i need to upgrade to the newest version?

I have also noticed that certain services will login into wingate using a system account. For example the username in wingate is system but the username(Logged in account) has NTLM authentication. In this case will wingate use the users account for security or the system account. I primarly use wingate to assign timelimits and prevent the kids from going to certain websites.

thanks for the quick response.

You would need to go to 6.1. You can use this version with a licensed key of any older version, so suspect it should just be an inplace upgrade for you.

This topic has info on how the machine/auth cooldown works.
