Setting up catchall email account

Postby pebbert9 » Apr 12 06 1:16 pm

Hello,

I am trying to setup a catchall email account, but I am having problems.

I read in another post, to use * as the address in the domain to specify all addresses that are otherwise not listed.

We have an Exchange server that is behind our Wingate server, so I am forwarding all mail to it.

I have set an email address of "*@powertron.de" to specify the catchall account. I have checked the "Override Domain Settings" checkbox, and I have specified the email address I want to forward the mail to and the Exchange server to deliver it to.

When I send a test mail to a nonexistant address, I get the following:

This is an automatically generated Delivery Status Notification

Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently:

def@powertron.de

Technical details of permanent failure:
PERM_FAILURE: SMTP Error (state 9): 551 Mailbox disabled

I have tried checking and unchecking the "Enable addresses for which no matching address handler exists" box, but it makes no difference.

All mail with a listed address works fine and I am using the latest version of Wingate.

Does anyone have any other ideas?

Thank you,

Phil

Hi

sounds like a catch-all is not what you want. What you want is to forward all mail for a domain to your Exchange server.

To do that, you set up the domain handler in WinGate, tell it that the mailboxes for that domain reside on a different server, and specify the exchange server as the specific server.

there should be no need for any address handlers for the domain.
