Restrict some users to browse only one site

Postby edmund.remo » Apr 22 06 9:14 pm

Hi Admins,

How can I restrict some users to browse only one site?

For example, we have 15 Internet users; these users could access the Internet (all sites) without restrictions. Then, I want to apply a restriction in 1 (one) of these users wherein can access only one website.

In this case, where and how can I apply the setting for this Internet Policy?

Thank you very much.

Hi Edmund Remo,

Well depending on how you connect the clients with Proxy, NAT or WGIC can have an effect on this.

Proxy is the easiest to regulate by far and the only one I can help with as I do not use NAT or WGIC where policies are required.

User must have some form of Authentication with Wingate either 'Assumed' or 'Authenticated' for this to work.

If in case of proxy connection go to the WWW Service.

1\ Set the Policies to ignore the system policy.

2\ Remove the 'Everyone' group from the available to window.

3\ Add the user to the Option window.

Double click on the user name and in the 'Specify which sites the recipient has rights for' under this create a Filter and add a Criterion which contains the specific service / web page / server you wish to allow.

eg: Filter 1 --> Criterion --> http url contains '.gov.au' will allow all the sites for that suffix.

or

'.ato.gov.au' will only allow a user to browse about tax yet is not allowed to browse 'transport.gov.au' or any other '.gov' sites at all.

Lastly, add all the other users to a new group of some name and give that group unrestricted access and at least assumed authentication by Wingate or you could just all them one by one to the WWW proxy policies and grant full access with authentication of one level or another.

This is one of the fascinating areas of Wingate and it's power to regulate users' accross an organisation.

Right at this time I am surveying users' in one of my customer's sites to limit undesirable internet usage.

I *only* use proxy connections and it will be a very simple matter to allow just the ten to twenty sites the organisation needs access to yet exclude all others with consummate ease.

Anyway, there is many other people on this board who may have different approach and more skill than I, so they will need to know how the clients connect to help, eg: WGIC / NAT or Proxies and are you using V6.1.1, if not upgrade using your existing licence for all the benefits for free.
