How to config eMail-Proxy if SMTP- and POP-Server not equl

Postby SarekHL » May 15 06 9:42 pm

Hello,

I plan to use WinGate for a small-office-network. The users are using email-accounts at different email-providers in the internet. So I want to use the email-proxy.

According to the help-file of wingate I have to configure the mail clients to use the WinGate-computer as SMTP and POP-Server and to put the "real" mailserver into the loginname like this: username#mailserver

But: What shall I do if the email-provider has different servers for SMTP and POP3. For example, GMX uses pop.gmx.net as POP3-server and mail.gmx.net as SMTP-server ...

Hi,

Yes it is ok and will work.

# On a client set the server to be Wingate / say 10.10.0.1 for both POP3 and SMTP on the usual ports.

# Configure the client POP3 like username#pop3.mailserver.com

# Configure the Email delivery of Wingate to point a the required remote SMTP gateway / ISP mailserver to deliver all mail for all users' on you lan.

But I dont want to deliver the eMails of GMX-Users to the same SMTP-server as thoose of gmail-users (for example). That would be possible only if I use an open-relay-SMTP-Server. But this may cause problems, because many spam-filters would delete thoose mails.

Normally which SMTP user you use is dependent on what ISP you are connected to, rather than what email address you are sending from.

Do you use multiple different dialup connections, or only one connection?
