DNS from an internal ip address

Postby pebbert9 » Jul 12 06 12:54 pm

I have a DNS address ( alhambra.riedon.com ) registered that points to our Wingate server. Any https requests from an external ip address to our Wingate server is forwarded to our Windows server.

If I make an https request to alhambra.riedon.com from an internal ip address, the connection fails. I don't want to forward all internal port 443 requests to our Windows server.

Is there a way to have requests made to alhambra.riedon.com on port 443 on an internal ip address to be forwarded to the windows server?

Thank you,

Phil

Hi

Can you add a record to DNS that's only used by internal users, that then resolves that name to the internal server?

Do I add this DNS record to the Wingate Server?

If so, how?

On a Windows Server you could add a DNS Server and create the records you need. Then have it forwarding to Wingates DNS or another DNS server, and set the internal LAN Clients to use that.

An easier way that may fit your situation is by modifying the Hosts file on the WinGate server to resolve alhambra.riedon.com to the internal ip address of the Windows server. It can be found in System32\Drivers\etc
