W2k RAS & WWW Proxy policies

Postby Jason Dax » Nov 21 03 3:32 pm

This is the scenario:

Wingate 5.1 installed on top of a W2K Pro. Java Autentication enabled, a few policies enabled in WWW proxy.

I want to enable an incoming coneccion via RAS in W2k. I want the server to call back to me, when I dial the Wingate Server.

Everything goes fine. I dial the server from home, the server calls me back. Conexion established, MSN log on Ok, ping to the office server, ok. When I open IE o Mozilla Firebird, I can't see anything. I can't browse, at all.

It was supposed to work like my office: open a java window asking me for a login/password. Instead, it gave me an access denied error.

I'm connecting from a Notebook. In the office network, work ok. From home, I can't browse.

Someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Regards.

Do you see the connection for the WWW in teh Activity screen of GateKeeper?! You could try binding the WWW proxy to 'Any' under the 'Bindings' tab, as the RRAS interfaces can come up and down, and if its down when WinGate starts then we wont see it, thus binding to 'Any' allows us to dynamically see them. Of course there is the slightly security risk of opening up this proxy to Any, as if you have any permanent external interfaces then people will be able to connect in to your proxy. However as you are using Java Auth anyway, this is less of an issue.

Just to close this thread, I will tell what I found so far.

1) I have to disable Java auth. Somehow, this was interfering with the POP3 server. With this enabled, all messages send from inside my network to internet ISP was blocked.

2) I found that was no problem with wingate. All the problems are caused by RAS configuration. RAS connection only use IPs from WG DHCP, not gateway, DNS, or WINS config. I have to edit the registry, and manually config this parameters, so now, I can browse safely from home.

Thanks guys for the help and the time you use to review this thread. I post this just in case anyone else has this problem.

The Microsoft Kb article 205247 explain how to do the Registry modification.
