Wingate Proxy Service - Internet access stops

Postby croat » Jul 20 06 2:53 am

Ola

I'm having a problem with wingate , my proxy server works for a while ( this varies - sometimes 10 minutes , sometimes 2 days ) and all of a sudden all clients connecting via the proxy get http 404 file - not found errors - all i can see in the logs :

07/19/06 15:35:52 192.168.*.* Guest 0000000249 Error: Caught socket exception in CWWWSession::HTTPProcessRequest() Connection to Remote Host timed out - terminating
07/19/06 15:35:52 192.168.*.* Guest 0000000249 Traffic 215 1382 0 0 22s

I've tried various versions of wingate from version 4 to the latest , wingate is purely a proxy (intenet gateway) running on a pc with 2 NIC's

NIC 1 - Internal 192.168.*.* and NIC 2 - External 10.0.*.*

NIC 1 connects to the LAN
NIC 2 connects to the ADSL POTS Router (ADSL 512)

I've configured the Wingate the same as another clients site where theirs is running perfectly.
This particular machine does however does have 2 gateways , one to a remote site (leased line) and the ADSL POTS router.

Sorry , not sure what else you guys need !!

Please let me now if there is anything ,

Thanks in advance

Hi

did you set WinGate WWW proxy to use the gateway on the ADSL?

Also if it tries to use the leased line for DNS that could cause problems. Can you set the metric of the default route to the ADSL modem to be lower than the one to the leased line? Are these both accessed through the same network card?

Hi Adrien

In Wingate on proxy service we set binding to nic 1 "192.168.*.*"
and the interface we set to NIC 2 "10.0.*.*" which is the NIC that connects to the ADSL Pots Router, the leased line is accessed through the LAN "NIC 1"
and ADSL on the other.

I'm trying to install on a different server to see what happens , would be nice if i could get the first working.

Thanks

Which version of WinGate is this?

There should be a gateways tab, where you can specify a gateway that the service will use. This is since WinGate 6.0

I've got the WAN (NIC 2) as my gateway.

I've come to realize that it might be one of the clients bombing the Wingate , busy investigating , will keep you informed.
