Ban List Criterions

Postby royce » Sep 11 06 10:51 am

Is it posible to put logical lests inside criterions for the Ban List?
For instance:

ServerName contains All AND too AND (flat OR frat)

that would return true for:
www.alltooflat.com
www.alltoofrat.com
www.allwaytoofrat.com

but false for
www.alltoophat.com

I'm using wingate 5.6 (I'd realy rather not take the server down for an upgrade) and I've tryed a number of diferent syntaxes, but none of them work. If anyone can help, I'd like conformation that this is posible, and if it is, the sytax to get it to work. I'd be willing to look into wilcards as well, if that is a better course of action.

Thanks in advance,
Royce

I wouldn't recommend using the Ban List in WG 5.xx. Nesting per se can't be done , however, you can achieve the same result using the advanced tab in the policy you want to control. So in Advanced settings under the user or group you are wishing to add the restriction to, you would click the radio button Specify which requests the recipient has rights for click Add Filter then Add Criterion such that you add a criterion under the filter for each condition. Each condition within the Filter must be true (AND) for the filter to be applied. Each seperate Filter is logically ORed with all other filters. SO as an example using your scenario:

Filter1
Not Server name contains and
Not Server name contains too
Not Server name contains flat

Filter2
Not Server name contains and
Not Server name contains too
Not Server name contains frat

should give the desired result. I think this is what you are looking for. Let us know if it works for you (or not).

Sorry, my logic is flawed here. That won't quite work as expected. Any site that contained those key words would be banned. What you need then is a scenario where NOT(servername contains all AND servername contains too AND servername contains flat) as opposed to what I proposed which is NOT (servername contains all) AND NOT(servername contains too) AND NOT(servername contains flat). Unfortunately, I just can't come up with a way to do that. Maybe a feature request then to Qbik - could we have the option to NOT a Filter as opposed to just the criterion within the Filter and also whether or not Filters are ANDed or ORed with each other or even nesting as Royce suggested?

I believe this may be a solution to your desired result?

James - Royce had requested those keywords to be in the Ban List so I'm assuming he doesn't want users to access those sites. Your suggestion would only allow sites with those keywords - right?
