How to prevent all the clients from downloading?

Postby keeper30 » Dec 05 03 6:36 pm

hi all,

We are now facing a problem of downloading in all our clients via their browser which munch through our all bandwidth. Is there any policy in wingate to implement the rules to stop their download like exe, zip, avi, mpg, & etc...? What should we do about this? pls help us and ur advise will be valued.

Thanks.

You could try

WWW Proxy - Policies - Ban List -

HTTP URL - ends with - .exe

hi qbik team,

If there are no remedies about this...This is very nice policy so please include this in the next version of wingate to implement the rules to stop their downloading of all the clients. Thanks...

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year...

Keeper30,

Not part of the Qbik team but sorry not to follow up sooner on this just the same.

I've just tested this:

WWW Proxy - Policies - Ban List -

HTTP URL - ends with - .msi

It worked as advertised - access to that URL was blocked.

Two things you need to have set to make this work:

1. Transparent Redirection checked under WWW Proxy - Sessions tab

2. Default Rights - Are Ignored under the Policies tab.

Let us know how it goes!

hi labull,

Again, i'd followed your above instructions step by step but the whole workstations cannot browse. When i turn back the Default rights (System policies) into "may be used instead" then all clients can surf. Did you tried to end with .exe & .zip? Why is that...yours is working, mine is not? Any other evocation? Pls help us...

Merry Christmas and a Prosperous New Year.

Hope this helps to get you what you need.

I have it working on my system 5.2.2 under the Service - Proxy - Policies tab. I did not want users to download files that ended in ".zip" or ".exe".

First, make sure your proxy is working. I run a web server on my box and needed to change the proxy port form 80 to 8080.

Next, grant rights to the Guest user under the Services - Proxy - Policy tab giving the "user access to this service" with the default rights (system policies) "are ignored". To get there double click on the Proxy under Services and select the [Policies] tab way to the right.

Then by double clicking on the Guest recipent that you just created it opens up another screen for that user. Click on the [ban list] tab and enable it. Then add a "HTTP URL ends with .exe" to deny this type of file to be downloaded. Repeat the process for each file you wish to not allow for download.

Later...........
