IE & Wingate 5.2 issue

Postby doven » Dec 05 03 10:57 pm

Hello.

I have a problem with authenticating on some sites through Wingate proxy when using IE. The site works perfectly well with all other browsers, however with IE I get the "Page cannot be displayed" page. The admin of the site says it's most probably something to do with cookies. Since it's a paid service and quite valuable to us while at the same time IE is a preferred browser, I wonder if anyone had this same problem or know the solution. IE works on the same site when accessed from the machine where we have Wingate (not through the wingate proxy of course). The clients are configured to access to a pure proxy, we use non standard port (8088). If NAT is a solution, I'd need some info on how to do it. The site in question is http://www.finance-on.net/reg.php (it redirects to http://www.finance-on.net/index.php)

The problem is, it seems to have this error happen but not always, ut would let's say work for a month and then not for a week and so on.

Thanks :)

Is the server running IIS?

Often when IE talks to IIS, it uses a different authentication mechanism.

We have found in testing here that IE will in general refuse to attempt to use NTLM authentication if it thinks it is running through a proxy.

There would be 2 ways around this, either by using NAT (which simply involves configuring the default route on your client machine to point to the WinGate machine) or using the WinGate Internet Client.
