*** Anybody using Mozilla FIREBIRD?

Postby pgr » Dec 07 03 8:39 am

Hi,

I'm trying to use Mozilla Firebird 0.7 on a portable computer, from behind Wingate, but it doesn't work properly. If I use the PC outside this network, without Wingate, FB works fine.

I've tried reinstalling, I've tried several computers, nothing works. FB just does not work from behind Wingate.

What happens is that some sites work, others only work the first time I go there, and most stop working after a while. When this happens, the pages load but FB does not render the page on the screen (I click View Source and it's there, but nothing is shown). IE works fine all the time.

I suppose the bug is with firebird, but I'm not having any luck on their forums. Is anybody else getting this?

I can tell you, there is nothing wrong with firebird 0.7. Right now, Im writing in a portable system using FB 0.7, behind wingate 5.2.

!) Have you enabled DHCP in WG, an the portable is getting IPs from here, or you use a fixed IP?

2) Have enable ENS? Check that transparent redirect is enabled.

Otherwise, I need more info about your configuracion, to give you some help.

First of all, thanks a lot for answering.

I am running Wingate 5.0.2., not 5.2.

I have DHCP and my computer is getting IP address from server. I'm pretty sure IP connectivity is ok because I can browse the web using IE at the exact same time as FB is failing in another window on the same computer.

I have Extended Network Support (I suppose that's what ENS means). I wasn't able to find any setting for "transparent redirect".

As you can see, I'm not very familiar with Wingate settings. I appreciate any further help you can give me. What else could I inform you about my configuration?

You can turn on Transparent Redirection (TR) in the user services by going to the Sessions tab and checking the box Transparent Redirection.

ok, I found it, thanks.

But it was already on - it's been on all along.

What else can I try?

I also use Firebird (exclusively on the LAN behind Wingate). Have done since FB 0.6 and before then I was using a version of Mozilla.

In fact (for several years) I have had IE removed from all the machines on the LAN using the products from www.litepc.com

I have Wingate provide both proxy servers and NAT, neither has provided any probs with Firebird. In fact I'm writing this with FB 0.7 via a Wingate-NAT connection. I've never seen any of the problems you described. FWIW I'd reinstall FB as a starting point...
