Hi; I just installed Wingate 6 & being a complete newbie re networking; would really appreciate some easy to understand help for setting up Wingate.
What I want to do (and why I bought Wingate) is to monitor internet use by all other computers (pref to show urls of sites visited, and if possible, block certain sites). I also want to monitor what computers are connected to the internet at what time, and pref. their up/downloads (some family members are using a LOT of my internet limit of 25gig and I want to find out which of them & what sites are responsible); also to block the teenagers from visiting certain sites (self explanatory).
System Config - connect to internet through Netgear 834G V2 ADSL + wireless modem/router. Wep 64bit (yes, I know it's not that secure...) enabled on router for network security. All computers running XP home SP2. Also all run Norton Systemworks. Also got a printer shared between the computers (doesn't work though!) and a Lacie 250G portable hard drive networked & directly connected to Computer A
Computer A (desktop/server) - connected via D-Link wireless usb to modem & the following client computers -
Computer B - laptop - connected thru ethernet cable to modem
Computer C - desktop - ethernet cable to modem
Computers D-F - laptops - connected to modem via wireless (infrequent)
I installed Wingate on Computer A so as to use this machine as a server. I have manually set IP address range on the router from 192.168.0.1 - 6. Router is no. 1 and Computer A is no. 2. DHCP is enabled.
Now, my main question is; how do I set up the other machines so I can see when they are logged in, what they are looking at etc? Do I setup Wingate for client; on each computer and what settings do I need to put in so they access the internet through Wingate & do I need to do a transparent proxy (whatever that is...)
If anyone can tell me this in very simple language, step by step, preferably with screenshots; i will be very grateful!
Thanks very much
Heather
