Hi,
For WinGate to identify a user there must be some form of authentication taking place. Assumed users are a very basic form of authentication, if you don't want to set up the assumptions then you can use authentication and have the users log in at the start of their session.
If you're using the WinGate Internet Client (WGIC) on the client machines, and an Enterprise license or Professional license (so you can use NTLM authentication) then the WGIC can automatically forward the login details of the user to the WinGate server, as long as you're using the domain user database.
Does this help?
