ENS Broken After Up Grading From 6.2.1 to 6.2.2

Postby jrscs » Jul 25 07 3:41 pm

I've tried to upgade from 6.2.1 to 6.2.2 with ENS on a Windows 98SE.

ENS works great in 6.2.1, but will not load in 6.2.2. The only way I can get ENS to work is to back it back down to 6.2.1. Do you have any work arounds? Otherwise, I'm going to be stuck with 6.2.1.

Thanks

Was there any error reported by the system?

Errors

Under system messages it just says ID 0704, object ENS, user system.

In looking at the networking tab the adapters have doubled and the IP addresses are not on the correct adapter. When I back it back to 6.2.1 the adapters only appear once with the correct IP addresses.

When you click on the Extended Networking Tab it says not installed, but the drivers have been set to be installed to load on starting.

Can you, please, make sure that qbikhk98.sys file is in \windows\system directory?

Yes, there is a file qbikhk98.vxd in the \windows\system directory. But please note it has a different extension ending in vxd.

Aye, that's correct, sorry - vxd, indeed.
Can you uninstall Wingate and then install it from the scratch?

If I uninstall it, will I lose my configuration settings, and have to reconfigure it all over again?

You can export the settings from the registry and then import them again.

And exporting the registry settings is done under the Advanced Tab?

Then how do I import them back?

If you have a reg file, you can simply choose File/Import menu in regedit application.

I exported the registery, did an uninstall, reinstalled a fresh copy of 6.2.2, imported the registry back and still have the same issue.

Nothing changed doing a clean install.

Now what?

I also have a server running Windows 98 SE and have just installed 6.2.2 and I get the same symptoms and have tried re-installing, re-activating, etc. So, "Me too!".

However, I can give you a kludge.

It starts with you going back to a version prior to v6.2.2
- make a copy of the pre-v622 "qbikhk98.vxd" eg "qbikhk98-works.vxd"
- install v6.2.2
- shut down Wingate server
- rename qbikhk98.vxd out of the way (eg "qbikhk98-v622.vxd")
- copy back the old qbikhk98.vxd from the backup (I used whatever version was current on 15/11/2006) eg "qbikhk98-v622.vxd" to ""qbikhk98.vxd"
- restart Wingate server

That has been running for me for about an hour and the machines on my network seem to be accessing the 'net OK. In fact, this message is being posted from one of the machines on the network.

I won't be surprised if the server locks up in the next 24 hours... so the usual "don't blame me" disclaimers apply!

ALSO: I have a Windows XP machine on the network that has never been able to access HTTPS (as opposed to http) web pages or anything involving SSL but it now can. So that problem has been fixed in v6.2.2 - at last.
