Proxy Service Hangs When Opening Console

Postby wcicc » Sep 07 07 4:26 am

Hello,

I am testing wingate and like what I see thusfar. (only as a proxy server)

I have one issue though that will need to be resolved.

In the system tray, I see an envelope flashing and when I hover the wingate icon it says "syslog messages waiting"

Now, I try to open gatekeeper at this time and 2 things happen.

1) The gatekeeper window opens but the entire application is greyed out... the control panel will not open..

2) When gatekeeper is in this "connecting" state the Proxy service stops responding and my users cannot access the internet though it.

I cannot restart the services at this point. The only remedy is to reboot the machine.

So... I do not know how to resolve this as I cannot open gatekeeper when the syslog message is flashing in the system tray.

Any ideas? I am planning on purchasing the product but need to get this resolved first.

Hi,

Yes, Wingate is amazing and flexible software.

Can you tell the forum the rough specifications of the server OS / CPU / memory and any other major services such as web servers for example.

Are you trialling any plugins too?

If you are game, what happens if you export the registry [Start --> Programs --> Wingate --> Advanced Options --> Export the Registry to say your desktop] then delete the history files as in this tips page --> http://forums.qbik.com/viewtopic.php?t=2834

My specs are a fresh load of Windows Server 2003 sp2 with the latest updates on a Xeon 2.8 GHz machine with 768mb of ram.

Wingate is the only piece of software running on the machine. I just loaded windows server 2K3, installed the latest updates from microsoft and installed wingate. No plugins... I just installed wingate and set up authentication groups from my active directory server to use the proxy service.

I just backed up the registry and deleted the history files... Everything seems to be running fine now. I will keep an eye on it... thanks

Nope.. the problem still exists.

The flashing "syslog message waiting" envelope is flashing in the systray after a few minutes...

If I try to open gatekeeper.. the proxy service stops responding and the control panel does not open in gatekeeper.

restarting the services hangs... the only thing that fixes the issue is rebooting the server...

The only way I can get in to gatekeeper is to reboot the server and open it immediately after logging in... If I dont beat the syslog message, I need to reboot again...

thanks again for the help

My pleasure!

Now I thought we may have been onto something there and I am quickly getting out of depth here.

As a final thought, it could be worth while turning on the Deadlock detection in Wingate's advanced features:

Report back how it goes and one of the Qbik team will take it to solution.
