with WinGate 6, you'd need to do this using 2 WWW proxies, one that one set of users uses, and the other used by the other users, then set the gateway settings for each proxy to use the respective internet connection.

For the next version of WinGate you can set gateway in policy per user per request etc.

Hi yes, since both proxies can't intercept the same port number.

Also since you'd then need to manually assign which one to use based on which gateway you want the connection to go out of.

Otherwise you'll need to wait for the next major version (which we are working hard on).

my original internet is port 8080.(transparent proxy)<-www proxy
my 3G connection is port 8081 (non transparent proxy)<-www proxy

once i dial in to my 3g connection, all the client will go by 3g connection even though i nv set the proxy at the user end.

how come user keep using 3g internet once it is connected?

sorry,I found another error message..

when i dial in my 3G internet,my wingate server uses that connection instead of the ADSL.Would like the wingate machine to use ADSL instead of 3G network.

I also notice when i dial in to my 3G,all my client cannot connect to FTP server via filezilla.Once i DC the 3G internet everything is back to normal..

Thank You

Hi Jeffrey

Standard windows practise is whenever you make a dialup connection, it creates a default route, and makes it the highest priority. This will then be the route that WinGate uses for anything where you don't specify a gateway to use.

To override this, you can override the metric for your adapter that connects to the ADSL, set it to 0. Then WinGate will use this adapter's default route in preference to anything else, and only a proxy that you specifically set to use the 3G connection will use that connection.

Override the adapter metric by editing the adapter on the network panel in GateKeeper.

Hi

Windows sets the metric like that for the system route table (which you'll see with a route print command from the command line), but WinGate will still use the overriden metrics that you set in WinGate.

Does WinGate access the ADSL and 3G from separate interfaces? If it's the same one, then overriding the interface metric won't help (won't distinguish between them), and you'd need to reset the metrics yourself with the route command... which is a pain. I think there is some dialer software out there that will run batch files etc when you connect etc, so you could possibly use that. Windows AFAIK doesn't allow you to override metric on dialups.

R&RAS might. What system is this on?

another option is to stop the 3G connection from creating a default route at all.

You can do this with the dialup connection settings "use default gateway on remote computer"

Try turning this off, then it won't mess with your default routes - you can then still use the ADSL for most traffic, but WinGate should still allow you to direct traffic through the 3G system, since it's a dialup connection.

Hi adrien,

the setting ("use default gateway on remote computer")is already checked.
my wingate keeps using the dialup as the default route....can you elaborate more on the previous mail about the script to change the route?thks

Hi

What I meant was to uncheck that option.
