Authentication Question

Postby harlequinfloors » Dec 18 07 1:26 am

We have a 25 user pro license, running on a Windows 2003 Server and each client uses the WGIC to connect. We use the windows user database, so that users can authenticate to Wingate using their network usernames and passwords at log in. In other words, we want it to be as transparent as possible to the user.

The problem we have is, on a couple of machines, when a user logs on a box appears saying "Authentication Required" with "SYSTEM" pre-filled in the user box. It's possible to click "cancel" and carry on with no problems, but it's annoying to have that box appear and can cause confusion. I've tried everything I can thing of to get rid of it but with no luck.

I have made sure all services start using local user authentication, and there's nothing in the startup folders or in the "run" section of the registry. It's all really confusing as to why this box appears.

Any ideas?

Hi

That dialog means something is running in the LocalSystem account and loading the WinGate client.

You should be able to see what application this is by looking in GateKeeper.

Standard procedure is to then exclude this App from using the WinGate Client - this is done by adding it to the list of applications (Start->Settings->Control Panel->WinGate Internet Client -> Applications) and setting the access mode to local.

I'm not entirely sure where in Gatekeeper to look, in order to discover what application is causing it. Where should I be looking?

Hi, probably Adrien is referring to editing the information available in Gatekeeper's History field where there is an 'Application' column.

If you right click anywhere in that pane a dialog appears to enable this column if it isn't already.

The history screen doesn't show a list of application which FAIL to run.

Can you tell me where to find the application which is causing the problem? It's not in History or under system messages.

Hi

In the activity screen, it shows a WRP control session. This is the control session for each application using the WGIC. It should show the name of the application there.
