WinGate 6.22 Mailing Problem

Postby Oelberg » Dec 28 07 9:48 pm

Hello Everyone

My company is using WinGate 6.22 Pro with Kaspersky and PureSight PlugIns.
WinGate is installed on a Win 2003 Server. The server has two NICs, one pointing to the router for internet and one to a switch for connection with the clients.
We are using Java authentication with a WinGate user database. The clients can connect to the internet after authenticating.
NAT is disabled, for all users must be authenticated to connect to the internet.
Everything works fine except MS Outlook, which can recieve mails from the internet (from freemailers) but it cant sent mails.

Im not using an internal mail server because i think theres no need for that.

now im looking for a hint how i can get outlook to send mails as well.
i looked through the Mail documentation pdf but there im told to set up a mailserver, which i tried but failed.

i hope that you can help me, my boss is already beating on me =(

Hi,

What you could do is to use Wingate to send mail in behalf of clients.

In the Email button you can configure where the mail is to be sent [either directly or better still via the gateway server of your ISP].

Also you can enable any SMTP authentication if required by the ISP Gateway server too.

On a client PC using the email client you referred to, configure the SMTP settings to point to the IP address and Port [25] of the Wingate Server, no authentication should be required then test with a loop email back to that users' email account for example.

Let the forum know how it goes!
