Wingate frequent hanging

Postby jlpk007 » Jan 02 08 7:56 pm

current version is WinGate 6.2.2

We have just upgraded our internet speed to 1MBps from 512kbps.Ever since the upgrade wingate has been hanging everyday..Do i need to change anything in wingate for this change of speed from the ISP?

when i ping for example www.google.com

i get reply from my wingate server instead of google saying destination host unreachable..

Thank You

Hi

Sounds like a routing issue. Can you post your route table (from the WinGate machine) please? To get this, go to the command prompt (run cmd.exe), and type "route print".

Can you surf normally from the WinGate machine itself?

Regards

Hi Adrien,

I can surf net from wingate.but not the machine behind..what i did was to reset the wingate engine.

This happens almost everday ever since we upgrade our internet speed to 1mbps.Thank You

WinGate itself doesn't send ICMP errors for dest unreachable due to no route, in those cases, it relies on the host OS to do so, so that packet is an indication that at that time, the internet connection or internet interface was down - i.e. something changed the route table.

Are you able to get a snapshot of the route table when the problem is occurring?

Sometimes i cant .It is quite random.
I had scanned my network for virus pumping traffic to my wingate or router...

when you upgraded your link capacity, did any hardware change at your end?

It sounds like you may have some sort of intermittent hardware problem or possibly even a cable or NIC issue.

our ISP report that the traffic comes to a halt whenever our traffic is near the full speed.(1MBPS).

My wingate machine is a
-pentium 4 2.8GHZ
-1GR DDR Ram
-IDE HDD

It is serving around 50machine behind it with a 1mbps line from ISP.is the machine too low spec? Our traffic is quite high as we do host our own email, web server etc.

Thank You

Hi, this might sound weird but I just installed a new Wingate on a similar topology to this [both NIC's were in a private A, C range] and were detected as 'Internal', Wingate was routing and some odd things happened until I checked the adaptor usage to correct the ISP side, to be set as 'External' it all started to make solid service to clients.

If the above doesn't help, can you connect or Ping a remote site if the Wingate engine is stopped when their is a fault?

Tried deleting the History files and reducing logging of services?

ok i am 90% sure it is wingate problem..but i dun understand why.
Everytime the net is down for machine behind wingate,i restart the wingate service and it will be up(at least for now)

when internet is down, machine plug direct to modem are not affected (i stated wrongly previously,sorry)..

I have clear the history.i just rename the history.cdx and history.dbf
Now minitoring .hopefully it work. All the while it was working fine.the internal has already been set to external and internal correctly.

btw:what is the purpose of history file, and how do i view it?

Thank You

Hi,

Well the history is viewed in the 'History pane' of GateKeeper, you can export it by right clicking in the history view and save the file as columnar data in text format.

Hi,

Is 'Monitor for dead gateways' enabled in the ENS?

If it is you could try disabling it.

Is there any antivirus products scanning the Wingate directory at all, if they are they should be told to avoid this directory.

Do you use Bandwidth Control?

Hi,

I apologise for the delay. It turned out that our experimental engine did not help in solving the problem and we are in the process of preparing the next one - as soon as it is ready, I will send it to you.
