gmail and wingate

Postby stefan » Jan 14 08 11:59 am

Hi,
I am having wingate 6.2.2 and only assumed users. I would like to use google application on the clients and I need to use POP on port 995 and smtp on 465 with pop.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com. All this connection has to be done trough wingate but not using wingate pop and smtp.
So far I disabled pop3 server and POP3 proxy server. In the ENS I opened port 465 and 995 LAN to Internet in port security and it is still not working.
Can somebody tell me what I am missing here?

thank you
stefan

Hi stefan

Do you see anything in the activity window in GateKeeper when the user tries to connect? If not, check that their default gateway is set to the IP of the WinGate machine (default gateway setting under TCP/IP settings for their network adapter properties).

Hello Adrien,
The users are pointing to the proxy server in the TCP/IP configuration and nothings happening in the activity window.

Hi Stefan

If you see nothing in the activity window when the users attempt to use the Internet, that means either

a) the traffic is not going through WinGate; or
b) the traffic is being routed by WinGate instead of address translated.

we can probably discount option b), since that will only happen if there is no default gateway set on the WinGate machine itself, and all its interfaces are marked internal.

how many network adapters are there in the WinGate machine?

There is only one network adapter in the PC.

Does the WinGate machine have a default gateway set?

Make sure also that NAT is enabled under extended networking in GateKeeper.

Failing that, can you try using tracert.exe to see what path packets are taking from a client machine to the Internet?

E.g. run cmd.exe, then type

tracert smtp.qbik.com

C:\>tracert smtp.qbik.com

Tracing route to smtp.qbik.com [210.55.214.35]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 * * * Request timed out.
2 * * * Request timed out.
3 * * ^C

ENS enable and has a default gateway set. Internet is working fain.

if internet is working fine, but tracert doesn't, is there a firewall on the client machine that is blocking things?

If there is only one NIC how do clients connect to the Wingate machine and how does it connect to the Internet?
